Cross Country News and Notes 2008 Cross Country October 13, 2008 6425 West Avenue • San Antonio, TX 78213 • (210) 344-9265 • www.antonian.org POTH PIRATE INVITATIONAL POTH, TX - Led by junior Angela Garza, ACP finished 4th out of 16 teams at the Poth Pirate Invitational Saturday morning at the Poth City Park. The Apaches had 149 points in the meet. "Today was a good day for our team," said head coach Devlyn Lovell. "I was very glad to see Angela Garza and Freshman Laura Cortez, who finished 1st in the JV division, run up to their ability. I look to see them do great things down the road. On the men’s side Phil McBride had a great race, and everyone else is coming along. We talked about needing to focus more and performing under pressure. Life is full of adverse situations, and you have to be able to perform at your best when it counts and when it does not because in life everything counts." Paige Bishop, who sat out most of the last season, toured the course in 14:26 to help lead ACP and finish 28th overall. Alicia York placed 35th with a time of 14:44. Marcella Reyes, Daphnee Peterson and Lorah Smith rounded out the top seven times for the Apaches. Kenny Cortez, who is in his first year of cross country, finished in 21st with a time of 18:20, while Erik Saks, Carlos Cardin, and Marcus Hosmer rounded out the scoring for the Apaches. "We had a pretty good race, even though their workouts have been tough trying to build towards the State Championships. Overall I was happy but our performance. The Apaches will return to action on October 18th when they compete in the TAPPS State Championships in Waco, TX.
